Lexus LF-A Nürburgring crash

High hopes for Lexus and their yet to be released V10 supercar, the LF-A, at the punishing Nürburgring 24-hour race were quickly buried after an attempt to acclimate themselves to night driving on the eve of the event resulted in a crash. No details are known about how the crash occurred, but photos obtained by KGP caught the wounded LF-A in the pits with damage to the lower left front fender and a missing chunk from the rear body panel exposing a massive radiator. The vehicle was then relocated via flat-bed to Toyota's off-site Nürburgring workshop.

With only two hours of sleep the Lexus team managed to get the LF-A repaired and to the starting grid the following afternoon. However, due to an oil leak and a looming two hour repair time limit the LF-A had little chance of being competitive. In the end the LF-A completed 106 laps with a best lap time of 9:19.757 for 120th place overall.

In a moment of weakness spy photographers were able to get close to the vulnerability LF-A and reveal detailed shots of the interior, horizontally-mounted door handles, engine and a carbon-fiber aerodynamic floor pan. Click Autoblog.com source link below for full size photos including many shots of the interior, crash damage and undercarriage.

Lexus LF-A on sale in Q3 2009

According to a Japanese Lexus blog supposedly from Lexus to their potential LF-A buyers details such as launch date, pricing and production units were disclosed.
On sale date will be in 2009 [Q3]
Production will be limited to 500 units, 150 assigned to JDM.
Price: 30 million JPY (around 300.000,00 USD).
If the price is in fact correct, the LF-A will be the first and the most expensive Japanese car ever. Also mentioned is Lexus will be utilizing a "Full Order Made" system, so each car's interior is per customer's specification, similar to what Maybach has been doing for their cars.

Lexus LF-A will compete at 24h race at Nurburgring

Toyota has issued a press release on their Japanese global site announcing luxury subsidiary, Lexus, will make a racing/public debut for their LF-A supercar at the legendary 24-hours race at the German Nürburgring in May.
Lexus wants to keep expectations low, by stating they have no intentions of winning the challenging endurance race which will put them bumper to bumper with well established competitors, but instead focus on extracting valuable development data under real world racing conditions.
