Volkswagen Routan

Here are pictures of new VW minivan Routan.
The Routan is based on Chrysler's RT platform which is also shared with the Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country
The Routan will have its own interior and exterior design and suspension settings but share the drivetrain with other RT platform based vehicles.

Under the hood is the two larger two V6 engines in Chrysler's powertrain stable, the 3.8L producing 197hp/145kw and 312 Nm/259 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000rpm. and the 4.0L producing 251hp/184kW and 355Nm/259 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4100rpm, will be available. Both engines are teamed to Chrysler's 62TE six-speed automatic transaxle with manual shift capability.

The body design is similar overall to the Chrysler vans. Volkswagen designers did give the Routan a unique front- and rear-end appearance that differentiates the van quite remarkably from its Chrysler siblings. The exterior has some styling elements from the Volkswagen Tiguan, most noticibly the front end with it's swept back headlamps. The interior is virtually unchanged from it's Chrysler/Dodge siblings, aside from the place ment of volkswagen badges where the Chrysler/Dodge ones would normally go.

The Routan is built solely at Chrysler's Windsor Plant in Windsor, Ontario, which it shares with the Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country. It was officially revealed at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show on the 6th of February
